Bio

Kirsten Bass Wilkins, MD,FACS,FASCRS
Dr. Wilkins attended medical school at Johns Hopkins University and completed her general surgery residency at Duke University Medical Center. While training at Duke, she had the privilege to train with Dr. Kirk Ludwig, the first colorectal surgeon to be recruited to Duke in 1996. Her dedication to colorectal surgery started at that time and she completed her colorectal surgery residency at Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson. While in New Jersey, she had the honor to be trained and share and office with Dr, Eugene P. Salvati, one of the founding fathers of modern colorectal surgery. She has lived in New Jersey since completing her colon and rectal residency at Robert Wood Johnson in 2003. Since that time, she has been honored to train three colorectal residents every year at that same program. She currently serves as the Assistant Program Director and is head of Resident Research. While her practice encompasses all aspects of colorectal surgery, she has a particular interest and expertise in all aspects of anorectal surgery. She serves as the current President of the Eugene P. Salvati Alumni Society.  Besides running a very busy clinical practice and training the colorectal residents, she has been very active in the New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania Societies of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. She is Past-President for both the New Jersey and Pennsylvania Societies. She has served on numerous committees of the American Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS). She was the Program Chair for the ASCRS Annual Scientific Meeting in Los Angeles in 2016. She has served as the Chair of the ASCRS Self-Assessment Committee. She was the Vice-Chair of The ASCRS Leadership Task Force and has been involved in the development of the ASCRS Surgical Leadership Institute. She has served on the ASCRS Executive Council as a Member-at-Large from 2018-2021. She was the ASCRS Treasurer from 2022-2024 and is the current ASCRS Vice-President. She looks forward to hosting the ASCRS 2027 Tripartite Meeting in New Orleans during her term as ASCRS President. During her free time, she enjoys traveling and spending time on the water in her boat.
